Solidarity Protest For Palestinian Hunger Strikers Outside Ofer Prison 11-10-2011 PDF Print E-mail
Palestinian hunger strikers in Gilboa prison have called on international human rights activists, groups and organizations to support their struggle by writing to the Israeli Prison Service to protest against the increasingly punitive measures being taken against them. Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association;
Addameer http://www.addameer.org/index_eng.html plans to publish letters that can be used in Hebrew and English on its website. The letters will include the demands that the Israeli Prison Service immediately desist from the use of isolation, from punishment of the hunger strikers by excessive fines, and from denying the hunger strikers salt. According to international medical aid and prisoner rights organizations, prison conditions for Palestinian political prisoners are primitive, with most prisoners housed in outdoor tents throughout the heat of the summer and the cold winter months. Israel is routinely criticized by international NGO's such as Human Rights Watch and Defence of Child International for their treatment of Palestinian prisoners. Hunger strikes are nothing new for Palestinian political prisoners. In 1976, prisoners in the Ashkelon prison held a hunger strike for 45 days. http://electronicintifada.net/blog/adri-nieuwhof/hunger-strike-movement-pales... http://mondoweiss.net/2011/10/palestinian-bloggers-called-to-join-prisoner-hu...
